DRYBRUSHING GUIDE

Dry Brushing Guide:

Dry brushing is a technique used in miniature painting to create highlights on raised surfaces. It involves using a dry brush with very little paint to pick up the texture of the miniature's surface and apply highlights.

Here is a step by step guide to dry brushing miniatures:

  1. Choose your colours - Decide on the colours you will be dry brushing. Choose colours that are lighter than your basecoat for highlights.

  2. Apply your basecoat - Apply your basecoat to the miniature, making sure it's completely dry before moving on to the next step.

  3. Load your brush - Dip your brush into your lighter paint and then wipe most of it off on a paper towel. You want very little paint on your brush for dry brushing.

  4. Drybrush - Lightly drag your brush across the raised surfaces of the miniature, allowing the paint to catch on the texture and create highlights. Be sure to use a light touch and a small brush to achieve the best results.

  5. Repeat the process - If you want to create even more highlights, you can repeat the process with an even lighter colour. Use the same technique of wiping most of the paint off your brush and lightly dragging it across the miniature's raised surfaces.

  6. Clean your brush - After you're finished dry brushing, clean your brush thoroughly with water and soap or brush cleaner to avoid damaging the bristles.

Dry brushing is a great technique to add depth and dimension to your miniatures. It's especially useful for highlighting textures and adding weathering effects to terrain and models. Keep in mind that less is more when it comes to dry brushing, so be sure to use a light touch and build up your highlights gradually for the best results.
